September 30, 2025 – Toronto, Canada, North Horizon hosted its annual cocktail reception under the theme Investing in Canada’s Future, convening leaders from business, finance, philanthropy, and public life for an evening of dialogue, connection, and shared purpose. The event reflected North Horizon’s long-term commitment to thoughtful capital stewardship to preservation and growth. Building a legacy grounded in purpose and contributing meaningfully to the country that has enabled generations of opportunity.
The reception brought together more than 150 distinguished members of the community, including leaders and experts from politics, business, academia, and beyond. The gathering served as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when shared values and long-term vision come together in pursuit of a common goal.
At the heart of the evening was a simple but enduring message: investing extends beyond capital alone. It also requires energy, talent, care, and responsible leadership. Through partnerships across industries, the event highlighted the collective role that private capital and principled decision-making can play in shaping Canada’s future.
Reflecting on this vision, Xiaobo Wang (MBA ’08), North Horizon’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Development, shared: “That is what we mean when we talk about Investing for a Better Future. It means working side by side—with people we trust—to make Canada stronger, healthier, and more productive.”
A panel discussion, moderated by award-winning journalist Robert Cribb of the Investigative Journalism Bureau, explores how strategic investment, when guided by purpose, can support sustainable economic growth and social progress. The conversation examined multiple points of discussion, from financial strategies to the broader responsibilities of leadership in deploying resources for long-term impact. Featuring insights from The Right Honourable Stephen J. Harper, Canada’s 22nd Prime Minister; John Tory, former Mayor of Toronto; and Derek Holt, Vice President and Head of Capital Markets Economics at Scotiabank. Their perspectives underscored the importance of collaboration across sectors and generations in building a resilient and prosperous Canada.
North Horizon’s 2025 cocktail reception was made possible through the collective contributions of its speakers, partners, and guests, with each bringing their expertise, perspective, and vision to an evening defined by meaningful conversation and shared ambition. Together, the event reinforced a belief at the core of North Horizon’s philosophy: that investing with intention today helps shape a stronger future for Canada tomorrow.
